Led by artist Saira Siddiqui, this project brings together Stitch Buffalo—a nonprofit empowering refugee and immigrant women through textile arts—the Buffalo AKG Art Museum, and the public to create a mural that fosters belonging and celebrates the diversity of Buffalo’s West Side.

Saira’s roles in the project include organizing stakeholders, designing and leading workshops with youth, community members, and refugee artists, and creating the mural design based on participant feedback. She will also coordinate public paint days in partnership with the Buffalo AKG Art Museum and assist with the mural’s final installation.

The mural, shaped by input from over 300 participants, reflects the rich cultural heritage of the community and Stitch Buffalo’s mission to connect people through textile arts. It will be painted on polytab fabric, allowing public participation in the painting process. The mural will be installed on Stitch Buffalo’s new Plymouth Avenue building in summer 2025.
